OFFICIAL RELEASE FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL:

On Wednesday, March 21 Woodward High School will conduct a MOCK CAR CRASH SCENARIO.  This MOCK SCENARIO will begin at 11:45 a.m. in the north parking lot. This demonstration and follow up assembly is being conducted to bring awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving as well as distracted driving to our students.

This scenario will be setup to reflect an actual car crash with critical injuries and death.  Emergency response agencies will respond to the scene and work the crash as if it were real. Fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, and an Air Evac helicopter will be on scene.  All of this will be for the simulated car crash.

During the follow up assembly students will view a short video produced by our WHS Video Productions class partnering with High Plains Technology Center Video Productions class.  This video will portray a student being worked on in the emergency room and eventually his parents being notified of his death. Another scene portrays one more student’s parents also being notified of their child’s death from the accident.  This video also shows the student who caused the wreck being processed into jail for DUI and causing these deaths.

The student actors involved with this scenario will have a chance to speak to the student body after the video.  Their speeches will center around the consequences of bad decisions made by some and life impacts of those decisions.

Our goal with this entire scenario is to prevent any of our students and families from actually suffering these types of losses.  We will have a group of counselors on hand this day to talk with any students or adults that have that need.
